What Are API and API Tokens

Today the word API appears almost everywhere, especially in AI, SaaS, mobile apps and automation.

Simply put, an API is a way for different systems to communicate with each other.

For example an online store may use APIs for payments, CRM systems, delivery services or AI tools.

How APIs Work

A customer places an order → the website sends data to the CRM → the CRM updates the warehouse → the customer receives a notification.

Most of this communication happens through APIs.

If an API is the communication channel, then an API token is the access key.

It helps the system understand who is sending the request and whether access is allowed.

When apps connect to OpenAI, Telegram, Google Maps or payment systems, they usually send API tokens together with requests.

Modern digital products rarely work in isolation.

Most systems integrate payments, CRM, analytics, AI and logistics through APIs.

That is why APIs became one of the foundations of modern software infrastructure.
